Queen Esther is used as a yardstick in this post.
Welcome to my blog once again. Today’s post is dedicated to the females. There are queens and there are QUEENS. In today’s post, we will be using a queen as a case study and as a standard. Queen Esther was the queen of Persia; the wife to king Ahasuerus( also known as king Xerxes). Queen Vashti however was also a queen; the former wife of King Ahasuerus. However, she didn’t act like a queen, she disobeyed the king and had to be banished because she would be a bad role model to the rest of the women in the city. Let’s look at the qualities Queen Esther displayed as a queen which made her stand out.
1. A queen should be obedient.
Before Queen Esther became a queen, Mordecai; her cousin told her not to tell anyone that she was a Jewess. She obeyed Mordecai’s commandment and didn’t tell anyone. Obedience is a difficult task for some females. Some find it hard to always obey. A queen should obey always.
Esther 2:10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it. KJV
2. A queen should be simple.
Simplicity is the essence of beauty.
According to Esther 2:13, every maiden that was to go unto the king had the opportunity of wearing her choice of clothing or jewelry as she requested but when it was Esther’s turn in verse 15, she asked for nothing but what Hegai; the king’s Chamberlain, the keeper of the women appointed. It was said in the bible that she obtained favour in the sight of all of them that looked at her despite her simplicity. Her simplicity made her beauty stand out. The rest of the maidens that went in asked for more accessories, perfumes etc thinking that would make them look more beautiful but it covered up their beauty instead. When God made us, He made no mistakes. God saw that we were perfect. Many people cover up their God given beauty to the extent that even their guardian angel would not be able to recognize them again. We see the before and after pictures of some people on several social media platforms and we won’t be able to close our mouths by the time we see the transformation. It should not be so. Queen Esther was simple and she stood out.
Esther 2:13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house. KJV
Esther 2:15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her. KJV
Esther 2:17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. KJV
3. She should not be selfish.
In Esther 2: 21-22, when Mordecai overheard the discussion of two of the kings eunuchs who were also the king’s guards at the palace, Mordecai told Queen Esther who then told the king about it crediting Mordecai with the information. She could have been selfish about it and could have credited herself to receive the rewards later but she wasn’t selfish.
Esther 2:21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. KJV
Esther 2:22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name. KJV
4. She faces danger for her people.
In Esther 4:15-16, Queen Esther was ready to perish for her people even when she knew that if she entered the king’s inner court she might be put to death. She is known by many for the saying if I perish, I perish.
Esther 4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer. KJV
Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. KJV
5. She should be courageous.
Esther went to the king’s inner court. That’s courage. She was ready to leave all. However, she found grace.
Esther 5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. KJV
Esther 5:2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. KJV
6. She should not be covetous.
In Esther 5:3, the king told queen Esther that if she wanted half of the kingdom, it would be given to her but the Queen wasn’t covetous!!
Esther 5:3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. KJV
7. A queen plans.
When Mordecai told Queen Esther about Haman’s plans to destroy the Jews, Mordecai did not tell her how to go about it. Esther devised a plan . She had two feasts with Haman and the king before making her requests before the king. She also told Mordecai to gather the Shushan Jews and asked them to fast for three days. If Esther hadn’t planned, the result would have been different.
Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. KJV
Esther 5:4 And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. KJV
8. A queen should act fast.
If Esther wasn’t fast about her plan, Haman’s plan to destroy the Jews might have succeeded.
Esther 4: 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” NIV
9. A queen should be humble and kind.
Esther could have turned her back on her people but she did the opposite. Her kindness made her support her people till the end. Many people use their positions to be proud but a queen is never proud!
10. A queen should be a child of God.
Although the book of Esther is one of the books where God wasn’t mentioned but you can see the works of God in the book of Esther. Esther was a child of God. You can even see that in Esther 4:16, before Esther went to see the king, she prayed and fasted and told her people to do the same for God’s guidance and favour.

You do not have to wear a visible crown before you realise that you are a queen. Always act like you are wearing an invisible crown. Be a queen!
