God is your mighty fortress, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1. Contemporary English Version.
FORTRESS [fawr-tris]: A place of exceptional security; a stronghold.
Wealthy people usually walk with bodyguards – strong armed men capable of protecting them. Though body guards are really amazing and can provide a level of security, there is an exceptional security that can be found in Someone.
As a citizen of your country, you hold the government responsible for your protection. While that is a civil right and the Government’s civil responsibility, you should also note that the government cannot offer the best of protection.
There is Someone with an exceptional security. He secures even the bodyguards but before I write about Him, I would love to write a short story.
A particular ship was to travel from a place on the northwest coast of the province of Asia to Rome. A skilled sailor was in charge of the ship. 276 people were on board. As they journeyed, the weather was becoming dangerous for the ship to travel and one of the cruisers, as led by God, decided to speak to the ship’s officers about it. They didn’t listen to him but listened more to the ship’s captain and owners. There was a terrible storm and the ship was repeatedly smashed by the force of the waves and eventually broke apart. Fortunately, everyone escaped safely to shore but they lost their food supplies and other necessities. (Story paraphrased from the Book of Acts 27.)
Exceptional security cannot be found in the best of leaders, commanders, pilots, drivers, sailors. Proverbs 18:10 NLT says “the Name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.”
Exceptional security can only be found in God. When you are in God, you have the confidence of safety.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT.
God does not want you to live in fear. Fear has torment. Trust God and talk to Him about everything. God is love. He loves you so much and would not want to see you fail or fall.
Note to someone: While I was writing this post (on Tuesday,7th June 2022), The Holy Spirit brought it to my notice that you do not believe everything written above and you wonder why just people die. God wants me to tell you that death is not the finality for just (righteous) people. It’s the beginning because they have eternal life (this is beyond the scope of this blog post).
I pray God helps you to trust in Him. You can also build your trust in God by studying your Bible.
On a final note, if you are not God’s child, you definitely cannot bank on His protection as He protects only His sheep.
For you to become His child, you have to believe that Jesus died, was buried and resurrected for your sins. You can say this prayer “Dear Jesus, I have come to realise how much you love me. I ask that you forgive my sins so I become your child. Thank You Jesus because you have forgiven me. Amen.”
