The Overcomers( A series) 2: Who you really are.

1 Peter 2:9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that he should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light: KJV

But you are not like that, for you have been chosen by God himself- you are priests of the King, you are holy and pure, you are God’s very own- all this so that you may show to others how God called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. The living Bible (paraphrased).

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

The verse up there implies that The Word there is Christ. The Word was not only with God but the Word is God and that is why we are not to read the Word using our own understanding. The bible says we should trust in the Lord with all our hearts and we should not lean on our own understanding instead in all our ways, we should acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths (proverbs 3:5-6). We should always pray to God that He should teach us His Word, we are also expected to have faith that our prayers have been answered. The reason why atheists argue with the Word is because they read with their own understanding. They do not understand the Word of God and it will be more difficult making them understand because they do not have the Word (Christ) in them. You can now go back to the last series. God has given us understanding already.

Back to the post now, what does it mean to overcome? According to the Oxford Dictionary of Current English, to overcome means to succeed in dealing with a problem. What’s the biggest problem in the world? The answer is SIN. Sin is the biggest problem in the world and that’s the major reason why Christ came in form of man to die for our sins so we may overcome because He overcame.

Who you really are.

You are AN OVERCOMER. It’s as simple as that. You have The Overcomer in you hence you are an overcomer. In John 15: 5, Jesus said He is the Vine and we are the branches. I got to understand a different interpretation of this while I was reading the book BEAUTY FOR ASHES by Pastor E.A Adeboye and I will gladly share. He said in the book and I quote

If He is the Vine and I am the branch, since the same fluid in the Vine flows into the branch, it follows that the blood that flows in Jesus Christ is the one flowing in me. It follows therefore that any sickness that cannot stay in the body of Jesus cannot stay in my body.

In botany( the study of plants), there’s something called the apoplastic pathway. In simple terms I’d call it the flow of water through the apoplast to the plant tissues. Relating it to what I have to say, the apoplast is Christ, we are the plant tissues. Anything that flows from the apoplast flows to the tissues but there’s something called a casparian strip that prevents the upward flow of water from the roots to those tissues and that’s sin. Sin prevents us from getting everything that comes from the Vine. This barrier called sin is what prevents us from being Overcomers. Isn’t that sad?

We should learn to let go of the barrier called sin and take up our true identities as Overcomers. This post is getting too long so I have to conclude.

In conclusion, if you aren’t an overcomer then you are taking the wrong path completely. It’s not too late to join the journey of the Ovrcomers. Accept that you’ve been taking the wrong path and pray to God to remove the barrier called sin in you. May the Lord forgive all our sins. I’m an overcomer, are you?

A Better Way to Begin.

Happy new year to you all! Last year, 3rd January 2020, I wrote a blog post “Don’t be eliminated ” as the theme of the year. If you can read this present post, you weren’t eliminated by grace.

This year, I was writing a post and I got the theme “A new beginning”. I started writing then the theme changed to “A better ending”.

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 KJV

Usain Bolt quoted “There are better starters than me but I’m a strong finisher“. When you look at the beginning of things, it’s easy to say “it’s a waste of time”, “I don’t know why I’m doing this”, “Will this turn out well?” .

We were told not to despise little beginnings in Zechariah 4:10. We aren’t able to know how something will end by the way it started but we can be rest assured that God who knows the end from the beginning will give us a better ending this year.

All that matters is your willingness to persevere. Work hard with ALL your might . Develop the hunger to succeed .

Trust the process, believe in the outcome, hope for a better ending. Happy new year once again. If it’s your first time here, welcome to the family!

A big thank you to the 700+ readers following this blog. The journey has been so amazing with you all in it. I’m beyond grateful. This year, I hope to have 300+ more readers following the blog. You can help by sharing the posts wherever. Thank you!

The Bible ( King James Version)

Oladewa Laura.

And God said!

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. KJV

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them and told them, “Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; you are masters of the fish and birds and all the animals. The Living Bible (Paraphrased).

Note please: The devil hates good things hence he will try to discourage you by the length of this post but just neglect him. He is just a squeaking rat!

Welcome back to my blog. The previous post was the second post on The Overcomers series. If you haven’t read it, you can read it now.

Back to this post, let’s analyse the verse above especially the highlighted words there, “And God Said”. In the book of Genesis 1:3, the very first thing God said was “let there be light!”

Genesis 1:3 KJV

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Did you notice something up there? If you didn’t let me help you out. Whenever God says something, it will surely happen. That is why the Numbers 23: 19 says God is not a man that He should lie… hallelujah! One funny thing is that we usually forget that God actually said something. We act upon what other people say or what we say not what God has said. Let me give a simple illustration. You want ice cream and God has said there is ice cream in the fridge then you asked your friend whether there is ice cream in the fridge and he/she said no or let’s say you asked your friend for money to even buy ice cream; ice cream that you already have. If that didn’t make sense to you, let’s use this other illustration. You have an examination and you are asking yourself whether you are ready for the exam or whether you will pass when God has already said in Deuteronomy 28:13b that

The Lord shall make thee the head and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath…. KJV

It’s just like having money in the bank and not spending it. You are sick and you are scared that you might not make it when God has given us the power in Matthew 10: 1b

He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of diseases. KJV

He even told us in Luke 10:19

Behold I give unto you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Are you scared that when you die after getting soooooo old ( we will not die young in Jesus’ name. Amen. )you might not make it to heaven when God has said in Luke 10:20b

But rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. KJV.

Are you afraid of anything when the Bible already said in the book of 2nd Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Are you scared of your future when God has said in Jeremiah 29:11

I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. Common English Bible.

God has said a lot of things to us. The problem is we are not listening or we cannot hear. The two points above are similar, what’s the essence of ears that aren’t listening. It’s same as being deaf.

Reasons why you are not listening to what God is saying to you.

1. You cannot differentiate between The Truth and the false.

Suppose you are given two plates of jollof rice; one plate is actually white rice that is stale but it has been mixed thoroughly with stew and covered up then heated properly and served with grilled chicken accompanied with fried plantain and a fermented wine mixed with flavouring and colouring while the other plate is a fresh jollof rice but what you can see there is just fried chicken with water. You will actually go for the one with grilled chicken and the rest of the accompaniments because it looks more appealing whereas the other plate is actually better. Do you know why? The answer is that you don’t know the Truth. That is why we see so many people doing all sort of shady businesses just to get money. They do not know that heaven is actually better than earth because they are looking at earth the same way you will look at the plate of rice with grilled chicken. The bible says in John 8:32

32 And ye shall know The Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.

The question now is what WHO is the Truth? I don’t have the answer but John 14:6 says

Jesus answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

In essence, friends, Jesus is The Truth. When you don’t know the Truth, you get deceived hence you make choices that are false (just like picking the plate of rice with grilled chicken and drinking the fermented wine. You will actually get drunk and do stupid things then when you come back to your senses you begin to regret and you might probably spend the rest of your night in the convenience because of the stale rice.)

2. You do not know The Word. This point depends on the first because if you do not know The Truth, you cannot know The Word. Remember John 1:1 says

In the beginning was The Word and the Word was with God and The Word was God. KJV

If The truth =Jesus

The Word= Jesus

Then The Truth = The Word= Jesus. ( Am I communicating?)

This post is becoming long.

In conclusion, you cannot know what God says about you when you don’t even know the sayer of The Word (does this make sense? I hope it does). If you do not know the sayer of The Word then The Word cannot apply to you. Meaning if you have an account ( The Word) filled with money ( but you do not know you have the account) and you need to buy something. You cannot buy the thing because you do not know you have that account in the first place. That is, if you are scared of failure, you wouldn’t even know that God has said you will be above only and not below when you do not know God hence that Word doesn’t apply to you.

You need the Word, you need the Truth, you need Jesus. You can just go to Him quickly by saying the prayer by crosswalk. com

The Sinner’s Prayer (by Dr. Ray Pritchard)

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.

Or we can use the one from the Scriptures

Sinner’s Prayer From Scripture – (Psalm 51, King David)

“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are proved right when You speak
and justified when You judge.
Surely I have been a sinner from birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me…
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me and I will be whiter than snow…
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from Your presence
or take Your Holy Spirit  from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Then will I teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will turn back to You.

NOTE: J.D Greerer explains it well – “It’s not the prayer that saves; it’s the repentance and faith behind the prayer that lays hold of salvation.

Be a Queen!

Queen Esther is used as a yardstick in this post.

Photo gotten from google.

Welcome to my blog once again. Today’s post is dedicated to the females. There are queens and there are QUEENS. In today’s post, we will be using a queen as a case study and as a standard. Queen Esther was the queen of Persia; the wife to king Ahasuerus( also known as king Xerxes). Queen Vashti however was also a queen; the former wife of King Ahasuerus. However, she didn’t act like a queen, she disobeyed the king and had to be banished because she would be a bad role model to the rest of the women in the city. Let’s look at the qualities Queen Esther displayed as a queen which made her stand out.

1. A queen should be obedient.

Before Queen Esther became a queen, Mordecai; her cousin told her not to tell anyone that she was a Jewess. She obeyed Mordecai’s commandment and didn’t tell anyone. Obedience is a difficult task for some females.  Some find it hard to always obey. A queen should obey always.

Esther 2:10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it. KJV

2. A queen should be simple.

Simplicity is the essence of beauty.

According to Esther 2:13, every maiden that was to go unto the king had the opportunity of wearing her choice of clothing or jewelry as she requested but when it was Esther’s turn in verse 15, she asked for nothing but what Hegai; the king’s Chamberlain, the keeper of the women appointed. It was said in the bible that she obtained favour in the sight of all of them that looked at her despite her simplicity.  Her simplicity made her beauty stand out. The rest of the maidens that went in asked for more accessories, perfumes etc thinking that would make them look more beautiful but it covered up their beauty instead.  When God made us, He made no mistakes. God saw that we were perfect. Many people cover up their God given beauty to the extent that even their guardian angel would not be able to recognize them again. We see the before and after pictures of some people on several social media platforms and we won’t be able to close our mouths by the time we see the transformation. It should not be so. Queen Esther was simple and she stood out.

Esther 2:13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house. KJV

Esther 2:15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her. KJV

Esther 2:17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. KJV

3. She should not be selfish.

In Esther 2: 21-22, when Mordecai overheard the discussion of two of the kings eunuchs who were also the king’s guards at the palace, Mordecai told Queen Esther who then told the king about it crediting Mordecai with the information. She could have been selfish about it and could have credited herself to receive the rewards later but she wasn’t selfish.

Esther 2:21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. KJV

Esther 2:22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name. KJV

4. She faces danger for her people.

In Esther 4:15-16, Queen Esther was ready to perish for her people even when she knew that if she entered the king’s inner court she might be put to death. She is known by many for the saying if I perish, I perish.

Esther 4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer. KJV

Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. KJV

5. She should be courageous.

Esther went to the king’s inner court. That’s courage. She was ready to leave all. However, she found grace.

Esther 5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. KJV

Esther 5:2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. KJV

6. She should not be covetous.

In Esther 5:3, the king told queen Esther that if she wanted half of the kingdom, it would be given to her but the Queen wasn’t covetous!!

Esther 5:3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. KJV

7. A queen plans.

When Mordecai told Queen Esther about Haman’s plans to destroy the Jews, Mordecai did not tell her how to go about it. Esther devised a plan . She had two feasts with Haman and the king before making her requests before the king. She also told Mordecai to gather the Shushan Jews and asked them to fast for three days. If Esther hadn’t planned, the result would have been different.

Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. KJV

Esther 5:4 And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. KJV

8. A queen should act fast.

If Esther wasn’t fast about her plan, Haman’s plan to destroy the Jews might have succeeded.

Esther 4: 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” NIV

9. A queen should be humble and kind.

Esther could have turned her back on her people but she did the opposite. Her kindness made her support her people till the end. Many people use their positions to be proud but a queen is never proud!

10. A queen should be a child of God.

Although the book of Esther is one of the books where God wasn’t mentioned but you can see the works of God in the book of Esther. Esther was a child of God. You can even see that in Esther 4:16, before Esther went to see the king, she prayed and fasted and told her people to do the same for God’s guidance and favour.

Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. KJV

You do not have to wear a visible crown before you realise that you are a queen. Always act like you are wearing an invisible crown. Be a queen!
