The Overcomers (A series) 1: Discovering the real YOU.

The only roadmap to success that you should follow is standing out – George Chidiebere (Author of the book “DISCOVERING THE REAL YOU”)

Welcome back to my blog. I’ve been so inconsistent with this blog. I’ve been demotivated, my emotions mottled but it’s well by God’s grace.

About three to four years ago, I realised my passion; passion for writing. I became a voracious writer, the insatiable desire to write was upon me. The unquenchable passion for writing led me to opening this blog, oladewalaura. The main purpose for this blog was to keep you INSPIRED. By the word “inspire”, I meant to fill, encourage, motivate and uplift you through this blog. Reading comments and feedbacks from you saying “this is motivating” , “this post is inspiring ” and other uplifting words fueled my aim for this blog. I started writing on this page February 2018 precisely. I’ve been motivated seeing you motivated. I’ve even had feedbacks from public figures. Miss Juliana Olayode ( a former actress in the series “Jenifer’s diary; A comedy series produced by Funke Akindele; renowned actress” ) once visited my blog and I was mesmerised and a few more of them.

Few months ago, I realised something was missing in this blog, something I could not figure out. I decided to stop writing for a while then because I was overwhelmed by my school’s work so I had to prioritise. I became more of a reader and a listener. I watched motivational videos that only motivated me for a while, I read motivational quotes that motivated me for a while. I had to keep reading, watching and listening like a car that needs fuel to move.

About two or three weeks ago, I finally realised what was missing, THE WORD. Yes! The word was what was missing, the Word of God. It was never in any post I wrote, it wasn’t in any post I used to read neither was it in any video I watched and that was the major reason while I was “half motivated”. That was special kind of discovery on it’s own- realising that I’m we are to live with the Word.

The Overcomers; the series is here for you to realise what is missing in your world for your puzzle to be complete. This series is here to answer your questions. The most important thing is that this series is here with the Word! However, the Word is not for you us to just read. The word is for you us to live by.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

PSALM 119:105

This planet called earth is filled with darkness. Imagine yourself while walking on the road at night and suddenly the streetlights go off. That’s so scary, right? You become blind physically until your eyes starts adjusting. The word of God is here to lighten our paths spiritually. Once you can see spiritually then the physical becomes a lilliputian immediately. The Light inspires us for a better tomorrow, it makes us look forward to the future! It makes us live as OVERCOMERS. The journey as an overcomer has just begun, I would love you to join too. I’m an overcomer, are you?

Welcome to my blog once again, this time I am determined to be consistent.

Follow this blog please! I would also love to read your feedbacks and comments too. If you would love to contact me, you can send a mail to oladewalaura@gmail.com.

Do THE WORK!

You take a crash, you get back up and next time, you succeed and that’s a great feeling.

Shawn White.

The heading sounds cliche, right? Someone said “cliches are actually cliches because they work!” It’s actually true. I want to be a perfect writer without writing. To make that happen, I have to work. Like WORK. Work very hard.

Life is a blend of thorns and roses but he who dares not grasp the thorns should never crave the rose. – Anonymous.

You want to achieve something? You have to do the work for it. The richest man in the world is actually a busy man. He’s always working. He’s doing the work.

You have a problem with organizing your day? It’s a perfect time to read Plan Ahead.

Do you need an extremely long post before you become motivated? You aren’t ready then. To become anything or anyone in life, we have to face it! Face your fears, face procrastination, face laziness, control them and not the other way round. You can do this, yes you can!

You’ve got to take those baby steps first then you start walking, then you start running. Look, you begin to fly! -Oladewalaura.

Plan AHEAD!

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now- Alan Lakin.

Welcome back to my blog! Christmas is in the air already. Merry Christmas to you all!

To plan according to the Oxford Dictionary of Current English is to decide on and arrange for something in advance.

You cannot begin to plan for a battle when you are already in the midst of the battle

Pastor E.A Adeboye from the devotional “Open Heavens “

There are so many benefits of planning. Planning:

  1. Helps you execute projects
  2. Helps you fulfil visions
  3. Improves your performance and organization: You experience less stress when you plan and you become more effective.
  4. Creates time for revising and updating the plan: A student who has planned ahead will have more time to revise.
  5. Helps you become proactive: When one plans properly, one responds to challenges better.
  6. Enables you overcome procrastination: A purpose driven person becomes motivated when he/she plans ahead.
  7. Reduces anxiety
  8. Makes one disciplined.

Lastly, if it’s going to be, it’s up to you. A goal without a plan is like going to the sea without compass and a plan without action is worthless.

A Better Way to Begin.

Happy new year to you all! Last year, 3rd January 2020, I wrote a blog post “Don’t be eliminated ” as the theme of the year. If you can read this present post, you weren’t eliminated by grace.

This year, I was writing a post and I got the theme “A new beginning”. I started writing then the theme changed to “A better ending”.

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 KJV

Usain Bolt quoted “There are better starters than me but I’m a strong finisher“. When you look at the beginning of things, it’s easy to say “it’s a waste of time”, “I don’t know why I’m doing this”, “Will this turn out well?” .

We were told not to despise little beginnings in Zechariah 4:10. We aren’t able to know how something will end by the way it started but we can be rest assured that God who knows the end from the beginning will give us a better ending this year.

All that matters is your willingness to persevere. Work hard with ALL your might . Develop the hunger to succeed .

Trust the process, believe in the outcome, hope for a better ending. Happy new year once again. If it’s your first time here, welcome to the family!

A big thank you to the 700+ readers following this blog. The journey has been so amazing with you all in it. I’m beyond grateful. This year, I hope to have 300+ more readers following the blog. You can help by sharing the posts wherever. Thank you!

The Bible ( King James Version)

Oladewa Laura.

And God said!

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. KJV

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them and told them, “Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; you are masters of the fish and birds and all the animals. The Living Bible (Paraphrased).

Note please: The devil hates good things hence he will try to discourage you by the length of this post but just neglect him. He is just a squeaking rat!

Welcome back to my blog. The previous post was the second post on The Overcomers series. If you haven’t read it, you can read it now.

Back to this post, let’s analyse the verse above especially the highlighted words there, “And God Said”. In the book of Genesis 1:3, the very first thing God said was “let there be light!”.

Genesis 1:3 KJV

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Did you notice something up there? If you didn’t let me help you out. Whenever God says something, it will surely happen. That is why the Numbers 23: 19 says God is not a man that He should lie….hallelujah! One funny thing is that we usually forget that God actually said something. We act upon what other people say or what we say not what God has said. Let me give a simple illustration. You want ice cream and God has said there is ice cream in the fridge then you asked your friend whether there is ice cream in the fridge and he/she said no or let’s say you asked your friend for money to even buy ice cream; ice cream that you already have. If that didn’t make sense to you, let’s use this other illustration. You have an examination and you are asking yourself whether you are ready for the exam or whether you will pass when God has already said in Deuteronomy 28:13b that

The Lord shall make thee the head and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath…. KJV

It’s just like having money in the bank and not spending it. You are sick and you are scared that you might not make it when God has given us the power in Matthew 10: 1b

He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of diseases. KJV

He even told us in Luke 10:19

Behold I give unto you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Are you scared that when you die after getting soooooo old ( we will not die young in Jesus’ name. Amen. )you might not make it to heaven when God has said in Luke 10:20b

But rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. KJV.

Are you afraid of anything when the Bible already said in the book of 2nd Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Are you scared of your future when God has said in Jeremiah 29:11

I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. Common English Bible.

God has said a lot of things to us. The problem is we are not listening or we cannot hear. The two points above are similar, what’s the essence of ears that aren’t listening. It’s same as being deaf.

Reasons why you are not listening to what God is saying to you.

1. You cannot differentiate between The Truth and the false.

Suppose you are given two plates of jollof rice; one plate is actually white rice that is stale but it has been mixed thoroughly with stew and covered up then heated properly and served with grilled chicken accompanied with fried plantain and a fermented wine mixed with flavouring and colouring while the other plate is a fresh jollof rice but what you can see there is just fried chicken with water. You will actually go for the one with grilled chicken and the rest of the accompaniments because it looks more appealing whereas the other plate is actually better. Do you know why? The answer is that you don’t know the Truth. That is why we see so many people doing all sort of shady businesses just to get money. They do not know that heaven is actually better than earth because they are looking at earth the same way you will look at the plate of rice with grilled chicken. The bible says in John 8:32

32 And ye shall know The Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.

The question now is what WHO is the Truth? I don’t have the answer but John 14:6 says

Jesus answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

In essence, friends, Jesus is The Truth. When you don’t know the Truth, you get deceived hence you make choices that are false (just like picking the plate of rice with grilled chicken and drinking the fermented wine. You will actually get drunk and do stupid things then when you come back to your senses you begin to regret and you might probably spend the rest of your night in the convenience because of the stale rice.)

2. You do not know The Word. This point depends on the first because if you do not know The Truth, you cannot know The Word. Remember John 1:1 says

In the beginning was The Word and the Word was with God and The Word was God. KJV

If The truth =Jesus

The Word= Jesus

Then The Truth = The Word= Jesus. ( Am I communicating?)

This post is becoming long.

In conclusion, you cannot know what God says about you when you don’t even know the sayer of The Word (does this make sense? I hope it does). If you do not know the sayer of The Word then The Word cannot apply to you. Meaning if you have an account ( The Word) filled with money ( but you do not know you have the account) and you need to buy something. You cannot buy the thing because you do not know you have that account in the first place. That is, if you are scared of failure, you wouldn’t even know that God has said you will be above only and not below when you do not know God hence that Word doesn’t apply to you.

You need the Word, you need the Truth, you need Jesus. You can just go to Him quickly by saying the prayer by crosswalk. com

The Sinner’s Prayer (by Dr. Ray Pritchard)

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.

Or we can use the one from the Scriptures

Sinner’s Prayer From Scripture – (Psalm 51, King David)

“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are proved right when You speak
and justified when You judge.
Surely I have been a sinner from birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me…
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me and I will be whiter than snow…
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from Your presence
or take Your Holy Spirit  from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Then will I teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will turn back to You.

NOTE: J.D Greerer explains it well – “It’s not the prayer that saves; it’s the repentance and faith behind the prayer that lays hold of salvation.

Congratulations!!!! You have the Word and anytime trouble comes, you can proudly say “And God said….”

New month; new resolutions? : How to plan for the month effectively.

Ephesians 5:15- 16.

15. See then that ye walk circumpectly, not as fools but as wise.

16. Redeeming the time because the days are evil.

KJV

Ephesians 5:15- 16.

So be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good.

The living Bible ( paraphrased)

As long as you do not take advantage of your opportunities, you will never fulfil your destiny- Pastor E.A Adeboye (from the daily devotional “Open heavens” )

Welcome back again! Happy new month to you all. This month is a month of consistency and productivity for me. What’s your goal for this month?

Well, resolutions or goals aren’t for the year alone. You should have goals for every day, every month, every hour. Now I have a question for you, ask yourself sincerely please, are you happy with how you lived from January to October? Have you been making efforts towards achieving your goals? If yes, welldone! If negative, it’s not too late to begin again.

What is your proximity towards your goal? Is it declining? These are the questions you should ask yourself.

Below are few but powerful steps on how to plan effectively and how to be more productive.

1. Use a planner or a note to list out your goals for the month.

When you do this, it brings the spirit of dedication to you. You begin to have a sense of understanding with yourself. Listing your goals out also reduces stress. It drives you and gives you a room to accomplish more goals.

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

KJV

The verse there is simply saying, after death, there is no working where we are going hence we should do well while we are alive.

2. Prioritize what’s more important.

Put first things first! I know there are so many things you want to accomplish but you can’t do all at once. Do not multitask, it makes you tip toe around your goals rather than achieving one at a time.

3. Action.

Goals, plans, ambitions, determination etc are useless unless backed with actions. If you write all your goals down and do not act on them, then it’s all a joke.

4. Focus.

A successful man is not a man who knows a thousand things but a man who knows one thing and does that thing better than anyone else- From the book “Spirit of Apollo” by Sidney Newton Bremer.

5. Use deadlines.

It’s just like a student having an assignment, he or she has to submit on or before the deadline. Same way your deadline should be something you are conscious of. Your deadline makes you intentional about your goals.

6. Have a place dedicated to your work at home.

Make sure it’s free from distractions, make sure there’s enough lightning and put other factors in place too. Learn to be organized. Work the hours that suit you.

1 Corinthians 14:40

But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

7. Break up bad habits.

Some people have the habit of scrolling through social media before working. It does not increase your efficiency at all rather it does not motivate one to start at all.

8. Be consistent.

Continuous effort; not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking your potentials. Remember, Winners never quit and quitters never win.
